I am part of the Structures Group of the Department of Civil Engineering. We are an energetic group with a wide range of expertise in testing and modeling materials and structures, including: fatigue and fracture, fibre-reinforced polymers, fire, freeze-thaw effects, shell structures and pipelines, and dynamics. We are committed to collaboration with each other, researchers from other disciplines, and industry.

I am proud to be a part of this dynamic and growing group of researchers. My research has the following main areas of focus:

  • Bio-materials for construction, especially straw bale construction;
  • Corrosion damaged unbonded, post-tensioned concrete buildings. The areas of interest include:
  • Assessment methods for unbonded, post-tensioned concrete buildings;
  • Repair of unbonded, post-tensioned concrete buildings using carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) rods;
  • Fire-testing of steel prestressing strand, and the performance of unbonded, post-tensioned concrete buildings in fire;
  • Mechanics and testing of strands with helical wires, including the bending of strands under tension, and the behaviour of strands with broken wires;
  • Fatigue of civil engineering materials and structures:
  • Fatigue performance and testing of welded steel cross-ties for light rail transit systems;
  • Fatigue testing and modeling of 316 LN stainless steel and MMFX reinforcing bars for concrete;
  • Fatigue testing and modeling of High Performance Steel (HPS);
  • Effects of variable amplitude loading and corrosion on fatigue of civil engineering materials;
  • Repair of fatigue damaged steel beams using carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) sheets;
  • Dynamics of fatigue damaged steel bridge girders.
